Unsure how to help?
At Stepwell we have a concern for the overall health and wellbeing of people living in Inverclyde. We recognise that many people are unsure how to support others who are affected by low self-esteem and confidence, self-harming behaviours, alcohol and drugs misuse and other emotional wellbeing issues.
SELF HARM AWARENESS TRAINING
Self harm has been defined as ‘a physical manifestation of overwhelming emotional distress’ and can best be described as a coping strategy. With at least 1 in 10 teenagers in Scotland self harming and over 56% of adults commenting that they wouldn’t know how to respond to someone with self harming behaviour Stepwell’s Self Harm Awareness Training sensitively explores the key issues and seeks to increase participant’s knowledge and awareness of self harm.
Stepwell’s Self Harm Awareness Training is a one day course (or over two sessions in the evening) which defines the parameters of self harm, explores the relationship between suicide and self harm, discusses how to support someone with self harming behaviours and challenges the participant's own value base and attitudes towards the subject.
